Blue Crabs Swept

After sweeping the York Revolution at home, the Blue Crabs were swept but the Newark Bears as again the offense didn't seem to be able to make solid contact with the ball.

Until the 7th inning all of the Blue Crabs offense came from one man, Liu Rodriguez who has two solo home runs, one in the first and another in the 5th. With two outs in the 7th, Richard Giannotti would single and move around base by base until scoring on a single hit by Patrick Osborn. Liu also had a single that inning and Mike Just was walked, loading the bases before Patrick’s RBI single. In the 8th following back to back singles by Michael Tucker and Ken Harvey and a wild pitch to put both in scoring position, Richard would again come through hitting a two RBI single deep down the right center gap. The Crabs would however go quietly in the 9th, ending any hopes of a come from behind win.

Jarrett Grube again started for the Crabs going 5 innings for a no decision, allowing only 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3. Jimmy Serrano pitched part of the 6th, getting the loss. Jimmy, who has recently been struggling with back pains, allowed 5 runs all earned on 5 hits and an intentional walk to Carl Everett. Again Paul Estrada and Matt Schweitzer combined for scoreless work, although each only went 0.2 innings in relief. Paul walked on while Matt struck one out. Jason LaVorgna got the nod to close out the game in the 9th, allowing only 1 run on a 2-2 count homerun to Carl Everett before getting the next three batter out in order. The homer was Jason's first earned run surrender of the season in 6 games and 6.1 innings of relief.
