Chris Mobley

Chris was signed during today's game by the Texas Rangers. We wish him the best of luck with affiliated ball and as I receive more information about his assignment I will pass it along to you all.

Kody Kirkland has been signed to a double-A contract with the Astros. We wish his continued success and the best of luck. Ricky Barrett was placed on the inactive list, no doubt related to his time on the DL. Dice-K was activated as an infielder and Jarrett Santos retired to be the pitching coach at UNC-Greensboro.

Signings, All-Stars and Departures

Butch has signed yet another outfielder in Jason Lane, to make room for him Butch put Ricky Barrett on the disabled list.

Seven of our players have made the all-star roster including Travis Garcia, Eric Crozier, Casey Benjamin, Matt Craig, Jeremy Owens, and both pitchers Dan Reichert and Ryan Speier.

For those of you who watch the live game last night via the Lancaster Broadcast, it was mentioned that last night's starter Jarrett Santos would be leaving following this half in order to take the job as pitching coach for the University of North Carolina - Greensboro, his alma mater. He has known about getting the position for little over month, but was waiting for the all-star break before making his move. He decided that if he was not signed by a Major League organization by the all-star break that he would leave to Greensboro. His last day is expected to be around July 15th, but if that means he will continue playing until then or if he will merely still be in Maryland until then is not entirely clear. Jarrett will be missed by all of us, but we wish him the best of luck with Greensboro.

After being placed on the inactive list, and now since his jersey number has been given away, I would not expected Matt Petrusek to return to the Blue Crabs this season barring several quick injuries or signings of our relief pitchers as we do not have the roster space to bring him back from inactive.

Trades and Signings

Butch has been rather busy at the trading block, having added 3 new faces to the roster since the departure of Brian McFall. As I reported earlier we signed a new lefty starter Craig Anderson who won in his first apperance last night. From the trade with York, the Blue Crabs recieved outfielder Jamar Hill who has taken the role of leader-off hitter. Also recently accquired was lefty reliever Jason Waddell who has yet to see action. After signing Jason and Craig, Butch was forced to deactivate pitcher Matt Petrusek as well as as outfielder Daisuke Yoshida to bring our roster back down to 25 active members. Many of you may have noticed the bull pen catcher is not Anthony Perry this season, but that mystery man is in fact Ben Harrison and he is not a catcher. Ben is actually a power hitting outfielder who is currently serving time on a suspension that should end around the all-star break. His return could spark even more changes in the line up, as well as seeing some of our favorite players depart.

Craig Anderson

The Blue Crabs have announced the signing and activation of left handed starter Craig Anderson. Anderson has had significant time with the Triple-A club of both the Orioles and the Mariners. He got his feet wet with independent ball playing in the Can-Am league last season. He has also seen time in international competition playing both in the olympics and in the world baseball classic for his native Australia. He is an impressive 94-65 with a 3.87 ERA in 260 games. His signing brings the Blue Crabs their first lefty starter since the departure of John Halama earlier this season.
