Greetings to all here in 2010!
While the Blue Crabs ultimately were defeated in their hopes for a championship in their second season, they put up an admirable fight. While there has not been a lot of talk about who will be coming back to play this season, there are some changes to the coaching staff.
Our Manager remains the ever faithful, Butch Hobson, but the rest of the crew is different.
Assigned to the pitching coach position, following the departure of Andre Rabouin is Former Major League Pitcher Marty Janzen. Marty is a 6'3 righty who spent two season in the Major Leagues. He played with the Toronto Blue Jays in 27 games (1996-1997) including 11 starts, through just under 100 innings pitched (98.2) he had an ERA of 6.39, allowing 76 runs 70 of which were earned. He had 6 wins, 7 loses and struck out 64 batters while walking only 51. Andre lead the pitching staff to two very successful seasons where the team remained either first or second place with the lowest ERA. Marty who has played for Butch before will hopefully find similar success this season.
Last season we watched hitting coach and bench coach Andy Etchebarren depart the Blue Crabs to take a Manager's position with the York Revolution and saw him replaced by Greg Blosser. Greg however will not be returning to the team for the 2010 season, but rather Blue Crabs player Jeremy Owens will take on the hitting coach duties. Now not to worry Blue Crab faithfuls, for he will still be the starting Center Fielder. Owens who was named the teams first Captain last season appears to be taking on more responsibility each season. He has shown great leadership throughout the last two season, and I can easily see this being another example of his great leadership.
